Sustainability is an integral part of the Atlanta bid, and it's important to us too.
When we say sustainability , we mean that our efforts are focused on meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. We mean that we engage all of our abilities on improving the health and environment, bettering our economies, empowering our communities locally and globally and sustaining those efforts over the long-term.
As part of the Cabbagetown SoccerFest's green initiative, we will be requiring food vendors to use only compostable plates, bowls, cups and flatware for festival visitors. We will have composting bins throughout the festival area staffed with volunteers to ensure the correct materials are placed in the correct bins.
In order to reduce waste, the Cabbagetown SoccerFest Committee will require festival visitors to purchase re-usable plastic BPA- free cups. These cups will be used for water, juices, sodas and beer at the drink stations.
The Cabbagetown SoccerFest Committee will be weighing the amount of compostable material collected as well as the amount of recycling material collected. With these measurements we can have a concrete number on how much waste the "green" festival prevented from going into local landfills.
